Each word is made up by sounds that can be blended together to read. Teach your reader to say each sound to start in isolation then stretch their voices out to blend the sounds together. Then encourage them to break the word into larger parts such as blends and vowel pairs. The goal is to get your reader to break and blend words fluently so encourage them to chunk letter pairs they know together and gradually challenge them to make their chunks bigger moving from one letter to two then to three and four depending on the word. You can also have your reader chunk root words, prefixes, and suffixes to blend new words.
